ImmyBot October Community Call Recap

With Cybersecurity Awareness Month as our backdrop, the conversation centered on what it really takes to build secure, resilient environments (and how ImmyBot fits into that picture).

One of the most resonant themes was visibility. As Jason Slagle pointed out, “You can’t protect what you don’t know exists.” Whether it’s a forgotten development machine or a printer quietly running Linux, asset discovery is the foundation of any security strategy. Without it, even the most mature MSPs are flying blind.

From there, the discussion moved into patching, both Windows and third-party software, and the trickier terrain of network devices and IoT. Jason emphasized that while patching is a solved problem for some systems, it’s still a major challenge for others. And sometimes, the best solution isn’t a fancy tool it’s a spreadsheet and a solid plan.

Least privilege also took center stage. With ImmyBot’s role-based access control coming in play soon, it’s easier than ever to ensure that users only have the access they need. Jason shared how his team is actively reducing access for Tier 1 techs, not out of distrust, but out of a commitment to containment. If a breach happens, limiting access can mean the difference between a minor incident and a full-blown disaster.

We also explored frameworks like the Cyber Defense Matrix and RACI charts—tools that help MSPs clarify responsibilities and identify gaps in their security posture. These aren’t just theoretical models; they’re practical resources that Jason’s team uses to avoid confusion and finger-pointing, especially in co-managed environments.

Throughout the call, the message was clear: cybersecurity isn’t just about flashy tools or fear-driven headlines. It’s about doing the basics well, communicating clearly, and leaning on automation to reduce human error and increase consistency.
